ANNOUNCED TODAY: Income support scheme for Self-Employed & Freelancers The key points: The scheme will pay 80% of the average monthly profits over last 3 years (although if there are less than three year’s filling HMRC will look at what you do have) for up to £2,500 per month. The support is targeted – it will only be available to anyone with trading profits up to £50k, who the majority of income is from self-employment and only those who had a tax return for 2019 can apply. If you are eligible you will be contacted directly, you will need to fill out a simple form and then the grant will be paid straight to your bank. Anyone who missed the filing deadline in January will have four weeks to submit your tax return. There are a few considerations that can support your personal finances through this time. ️Mortgage Relief – numerous mortgage companies are offering a three month holiday. You must reach out to your provider determine if this is an option for you. ️ Rent Eviction Protection – The government has announced new legislation to completely ban evictions whilst this national emergency is taking place. Landlords and tenants are expected to work together to agree payment plans. ️Universal Credit – You may now qualify for Universal Credit. If you are Self Employed (and have been from 6th April) it is worth investigating, as the minimum income floor will be temporarily removed. This change will apply to all Universal Credit claimants and will last for the duration of the outbreak. New claimants are not required to attend the job centre to demonstrate gainful self employment. You can learn more through the government’s website on Universal Credit.
